FAQ

Short answers are here. Details are found in the how-to guides.

Will a repeater interfere with anything I have on my tower?

Meshcore repeaters transmit an incredibly low amount of energy, which is why they can run on small solar panels. As a result, it's incredibly unlikely to experience interference problems. You're more likely to win the lottery.

Do I need a license to operate a MeshCore radio for Keweenaw Mesh?

A license is not needed to legally operate under typical use. Use the USA/Canada preset which set the radio to a public use frequency 910.525MHz. The use of presets other than USA/Canada, a custom frequency, very high gain antennas or high power amplifiers without intimate knowledge of FCC rules is highly discouraged and may violate federal law.

Will you support Meshtastic now or in the future?

We love all form of mesh, however Keweenaw Mesh uses MeshCore at this time. Meshtastic it not a good fit for our goals and will not be considered in the future.

Why won't the flasher see my board?

Usually this is a problem with a charge-only cable, using the wrong browser such as Firefox. Use a Chromium-based browser such as Chrome, Brave, Helium or Edge, try a cable that supports data transfer, and make sure to read the notes for your exact board on the official flasher for instructions.

Can I use this network in case of emergency?

Emergency service are not offered on this network. Always attempt to use public services such as 911 in the event of an emergency. This mesh network should be considered as providing best-effort delivery and should only be used as a last resort.

What preset should I use?

Use the USA/Canada preset to access Keweenaw Mesh. This preset will set your radio to the correct channel of 910.525MHz
